Stewardship at a Turning Point: Lowering Expectations, Holding the Line or Raising the Bar ?

This discussion brings together key experts to examine whether investor stewardship is at a genuine turning point.

Against a backdrop of political pushback, market volatility, and growing scrutiny of ESG, the conversation will explore what has fundamentally changed over the past three years — and whether the current moment represents a retreat, a reset, or a necessary recalibration.

Key themes include whether stewardship has drifted beyond its core mandate of governance and long-term value creation, whether financial markets are being asked to compensate for policy failures, and whether the industry has oversold what engagement alone can deliver. The speakers will also address what “holding the line” or “raising the bar” means in practical terms — from voting consequences and board accountability to the relative power of engagement versus capital allocation.

The session will close with a forward-looking reflection on how this period may be judged five years from now: as a step back, a correction, or the beginning of a more disciplined and credible form of stewardship.
