Active bondholder engagement is critical for modern corporate governance for four primary reasons. First, because fixed-income investors lack formal voting rights, direct dialogue serves as their primary mechanism to influence management. Second, this consistent interaction allows investors to detect escalating credit risks and looming default threats early, ultimately protecting capital. Third, because companies rely on capital markets to constantly roll over debt, refinancing windows provide investors with immense bargaining power. Finally, when debt and equity investors align their demands, it creates a unified market pressure that effectively holds corporate leadership accountable.

Fixed income investors play a critical role in financing the transition, yet the stewardship role of bondholders remains less developed than equity stewardship.

In this webinar, Stewardship Professionals (StePs) and the Anthropocene Fixed Income Institute (AFII) will explore why bondholder engagement matters and how fixed income investors can use their position to influence issuers and support the transition.

This webinar is the first session in a two-part StePs × AFII series on Fixed Income Stewardship.
